Understand a bump
A bump is USTA moving your NTRP rating up a level at the end of the year, when it publishes its computer ratings.
The Desk doesn't predict who will be bumped next, but its research looks back at how past players did.
What has the research found?
Section titled “What has the research found?”There are four research pieces on bumps, and each one's rates are about its group of past players as a whole:
- Does winning move you up a level?
- Does winning at sectionals decide who gets bumped?
- Where do you have to finish to get bumped?
- What happens after a bump?
You'll find every research piece under Research.
Follow your own year
Section titled “Follow your own year”Your player page charts your Desk level, the Desk's estimate of how you play now, through the year, over a strip for the range your NTRP rating covers.
After a bump, your Desk level moves part way toward about the middle of the new range at your first match after it, if it's below that point.
The Desk records how pages are used, including what is typed, and keeps recordings for up to 30 days, as the terms explain.
