Tennis Desk Research

Questions about USTA NorCal league tennis, answered by counting. Each page below states what it counted and how many, and every figure on it is a count over a stated denominator.

Does winning move you up a level? At 4.0 and up, winning three-quarters of a season's matches usually isn't enough. Does the home team really win more? The home team wins 55.8%, and a fifth of that is the visitors not turning up. Does winning at sectionals decide who gets bumped? Reaching sectionals changes nothing, and winning a line there triples the chance of moving up. Where do you have to finish to get bumped? At the top of the range 21.5% of players moved up, and four tenths past it 94.1%.
