What the Desk is

A Desk level is The Tennis Desk's estimate of how a player is playing now, on the NTRP scale to two decimals. It is not an NTRP rating.

The Tennis Desk publishes USTA NorCal league results that are already public, with a Desk level beside each player. The Desk is not run by USTA, and a Desk level is not an official rating of any kind.

How you may use it

The site is for personal use: reading results, following a team, and preparing for your own matches. Do not scrape the site, copy its pages in bulk, or republish its data as a set. There is one exception: the data files of our six research pieces. Those six files may be reused under the CC BY 4.0 license. They cover moving up by winning, home advantage, sectionals, and where you finish to get bumped. They also cover what happens after a bump and lineup order. Credit The Tennis Desk and give the address of the research piece the data came from. No other page or file on the site may be reused.

Software may read the Desk through its connector, with a key we issue. Results come from published sources and can lag or contain errors. The Desk does not guarantee that a result, a level or a page is accurate or complete. A Desk level is an estimate, so do not treat it as a decision about a player.

The Desk Pass

Reading the site is free and needs no account. The Desk Pass is the paid tier. Its price, what it buys and how to cancel are on the pricing page. Stripe takes the payment and holds your payment details. The Desk never sees your payment details.

What the Desk collects and why

The Desk collects usage data, which is a record of how people use the site. Usage data helps the Desk run the site, answer questions and make it better, but the Desk doesn't sell it or use it for advertising.

The Desk records each visit as a screen recording: clicks, pointer movement, scrolling and what you type. Typed text is not masked, so a recording shows what you type in the search box, the chat box and the sign-in form.

The Desk collects these kinds of data:

Each chat question is stored with the Desk's answer, the date and codes that link it to your browser, network or account. Anyone with a shared answer's link sees your question and the Desk's answer, and nothing else about you.

What is left out

What stays in your browser

Your chat conversations are saved in your browser, so a reload keeps them. Your browser also keeps a random visitor code, your theme, a few small settings and, if you have one, your sign-in key. PostHog keeps its own random codes there, with the first page you opened and the site that sent you. All of it stays until you clear it.

If you use the Desk from ChatGPT or Claude

When an AI app asks the Desk for you, the Desk keeps these to answer it and to learn what people ask:

Each kind of record has its own end date, but a linked app stays until it's revoked.
