The chat's limits and refusals

Chat questions have daily and monthly limits.

Without a Desk Pass, you get about 20 answers a month, a budget which usually runs out before the limits of 40 questions a day and 600 a month.

A Desk Pass raises that to 200 a day and about 250 a month, and counts restart at midnight Pacific time and on the 1st.

  • Signed in. Your count follows your account, and your agent has its own.
  • Signed out. Your browser has a count, and your network a larger one.

Asked plainly, these never count:

  • hello, thanks or bye
  • a starter question, like what it can look up
  • whether the Desk is official USTA
  • what's free
  • Signed out only:
    • when the data is updated
    • a privacy question, or how to have your name withheld
    • a call for help
    • how to report something wrong, or send an idea

Any question the chat's AI answers counts, even one of these reworded.

Each message names its limit and when chat returns.

The chat says: “Daily limit reached — you can ask again tomorrow.”

“Monthly limit reached — chat resets next month.”

“Your chat budget for this month is used up. Chat comes back on the 1st at midnight Pacific time.”

“Your free chat for this month is used up. A Desk Pass gives you more, or chat comes back on the 1st at midnight Pacific time.”

Readers without a pass share a daily and a monthly limit, which never stop pass holders.

The chat says: “The chat has reached its daily limit for readers without a Desk Pass. Chat comes back at midnight Pacific time.”

“The chat has reached its monthly spending limit for readers without a Desk Pass. It comes back on the 1st at midnight Pacific time.”

If the Desk has to pause the chat for everyone

Section titled “If the Desk has to pause the chat for everyone”

The chat says: “The chat is paused for now. Every page still opens, and you can ask again later.”

The chat says: “The Desk has reached its monthly spending limit on the chat for everyone. Chat comes back on the 1st at midnight Pacific time. Every page still opens.”

Create a free account with your email for a free forecast, and the chat says when your next one comes.

When your pass's weekly forecasts run out, the chat says:

The chat says: “You have used this week's 10 forecasts. They come back on Monday at midnight Pacific time. Records, rosters and head-to-head records are still free.”

The chat won't send a figure it can't trace, so signed in it rewrites or drops that sentence, and signed out its reason begins:

The chat says: “My own check then turned my answer down”

The Desk keeps questions and answers with no set end date.

The Desk records how pages are used, including what is typed, and keeps recordings for up to 30 days, as the terms explain.
