Where the data comes from
Every result on the Desk comes from league results USTA NorCal has already published. The Tennis Desk is not affiliated with USTA.
Where the results come from
Section titled “Where the results come from”The Desk reads USTA's new results once a day. Players' names and NTRP ratings come from the team rosters USTA publishes, but the Desk level is the Desk's own estimate, worked out from the results.
Which club a team belongs to
Section titled “Which club a team belongs to”A team belongs to every club whose USTA page lists it, and the Desk reads those pages every day this season. When its name holds two clubs, like NOVATO TC/PIONEER PK, the team plays for both and shows up on the page of each club.
An older season can still show a team under one club only, until the Desk reads that season's club pages.
What the letters after a rating mean
Section titled “What the letters after a rating mean”The letters after an NTRP rating are USTA's, and the Desk never changes them:
- C: a computer rating, which USTA works out from match results.
- s: self-rated, a rating the player picked.
- A: a rating the player appealed.
- D: USTA disqualified the rating during the year. It shows two numbers, like 4.0D/ 4.5: the old NTRP rating, then the new one.
On a league page, a rating at the league's own level shows only its letter. USTA's rules for self-rated players and appeals are on the page about which matches count.
If something looks wrong
Section titled “If something looks wrong”If a score, a result or a name is wrong, report it, and a person will read what you send.
The Desk records how pages are used, including what is typed, and keeps recordings for up to 30 days, as the terms explain.
